Child Nutrition
Welcome to CHDP
Welcome to CHDP, an NGO that is dedicated to promoting child nutrition campaigns for malnourished children in the Udumalpet block of Tiruppur district. Our mission is to ensure that every child in our community has access to nutritious food and receives the necessary healthcare to thrive and develop properly.
Malnutrition is a significant challenge for children in our community, and it can have long-lasting effects on their physical and mental development. Many factors contribute to malnutrition, including poverty, lack of education, and limited access to healthcare. Children who suffer from malnutrition are more susceptible to illnesses, have lower energy levels, and may experience developmental delays.
At CHDP, we believe that every child deserves access to healthy, nutritious food. We work with families and communities to raise awareness about the importance of proper nutrition and provide resources to help them overcome the challenges that contribute to malnutrition. Our programs focus on providing nutritious meals, educating families about healthy eating habits, and ensuring that children receive the necessary medical care to support their growth and development.
Through our efforts, we have seen significant improvements in the health and well-being of children in our community. We are committed to continuing our work and expanding our reach to help more children and families in need.
Join us in our mission to promote child nutrition and help us create a healthier, more vibrant community for all. Whether through volunteering, donations, or spreading awareness about our cause, every contribution makes a difference. Together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of malnourished children in Udumalpet and beyond.

CHDP, an NGO that is committed to mitigating the effects of climate change through our Mangrove Plantation program in the Chennai Pulicat region. Our mission is to help restore the natural ecosystem of the region and reduce the impact of climate change on the local community.
Mangroves Project
Importance of Mangroves
Mangroves are an important part of the ecosystem in coastal regions, providing a range of benefits that include carbon sequestration, coastal protection, and habitat for a variety of marine species. However, mangrove forests in the Chennai Pulicat region have been significantly degraded over the years due to deforestation, pollution, and coastal development.
At CHDP, we believe that restoring mangrove forests is essential to mitigating the effects of climate change and preserving the natural heritage of the region. Our Mangrove Plantation program is designed to plant new mangrove saplings and protect existing forests to help restore the ecosystem and its benefits.
Our program is implemented in collaboration with the local community and government authorities. We work with local fishermen and their families to plant mangrove saplings in the coastal areas, providing them with training and resources to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project. We also work with local schools to raise awareness about the importance of mangrove forests and the role they play in climate change mitigation.
Through our efforts, we have seen a significant improvement in the local ecosystem, with the return of several marine species and an increase in carbon sequestration. We believe that our Mangrove Plantation program will continue to have a positive impact on the region, helping to mitigate the effects of climate change and preserve the natural heritage of the Chennai Pulicat region.

We are very much thankful to CEBEMO, SCINDEA, IRISH AID and special programme for their valuable support and aids provided to our programme in this period.
We adopted 63 villages in Udumalpet block 16 villages in madathukulam block and 22 tribal settlement Total populations in village and tribal settlement was 94076 and 2462 respectively. We started and conducted the following programmes in the adopted areas.
Clinical Health:
As and when we commenced our clinical services in these remote settlement villages, we found people were not aware of their health, hygiene, nutrition, environmental sources and seasonal diseases. Our appointed nurse will do clinical service in morning hours and do visit houses to inculcate the people about their health care. Gradually with our careful services in first aid, free medicines and advices, now they have become well developed in taking care of their health.
Two clinics were playing an important role to reduce the diarrhea, anemia, white discharge etc and reduced the medical expenses by promoting low cost medicine and door step curative services.
The health workers find difficult in the beginning to bring the people to listen their advises regarding
personal hygiene and sanitation. Slowly by regular attempts in the evening hours we succeeded in bringing the people to attend our programme. Now they are taking care about their health carefully and also approaching hospitals and doctors for all major ailments. We feel happy to know that they are now well aware of the preventive measures also. We have conducted immunization programme, nutritious food by joining with the government officials and in pulse polio, DPI, DT and T.T.
Health education
Before we started this programme in Tribal areas the maternal deliveries were done in homes by village people themselves who were not qualified much about mother and child care. We selected few ladies and gave dhais training to help them in pre-natal care. Now they are stepping into hospitals for all maternal, gynocare and child Health.
We found mostly illiterates in these remote villages. They have studied upto 5th or 6th standard level only. We selected some persons from these areas, gave adequate training in health services and conducted test after 45 days training, on successful completion of the training each person was provided with drug kit to treat minor ailments in their own area. Now they are doing well the primary health services.
School Health Programme
Mostly we find school children affected by Aneamia, Personal hygiene general weakness worm infestation, environmental health and malnutrition. We started this programme and conducted in the Tribal Residential Elementary School, Thirumoorthi Nagar and Karattur. The children were taught about personal hygiene, dental and eye care, importance of Iodine in daily food, drinking water and immunization. Over 5 years we are giving soap, hair oil and tooth paste to the children and also education to elders.
Community Organisation
During the period we entered into their area we found so many problems among Tribals and rural poor people. They faced many problems in daily wages, deployment, human rights. We enthusiastically guided and directed to from specific groups and selected a leader among them to preside and function on behalf of them. As a result they formed mandrams and sangams and selected eligible candidates as their leaders. They represented their domestic and communal problems to the govt. authorities like Tasildhars, BDO`S, Collector and sub Collector. Now they are well versed to communicate and solve their own leaders. They are not dependant on another organization for problem and development.
We collected the 3 leaders from each settlement and gave training, how to precise the tribal and communal problems, to whom the person to meet with and the formulae of presenting the demands to the higher and government officials, Department concerned. At present there are about 40 leaders. We guided them to form groups and mandrams to process their needs and requirements. Through our training and education they learned to maintain minute books, conducting meeting, process of preparing their demands to present to the government authorities.
Earlier the land lords and rich people from rural areas cultivated this grass and extracted oil in the tribal region. They used the tribals and poor people as laborers in this work. After our visit we understood the benefit of this crop and we planned to encourage the poor people and tribals to empower them for sustainable income for their life. We selected 6 persons from tribal area, gave seeds to cultivate and demonstrated the practices of extracting oil. Also we provided them the required drums for this purpose. In 1994 we prepared a report about the lemon grass cultivation in this area, the usage of the oil in the preparation of scent, soaps and medicines to the then collector. On receiving our report the government sanctioned loan to 40 persons each of Rs.6000/-
Sangams were formed between 2008 and 2011 in all the 30 villages around Udumalpet Taluk, and developed the leadership qualities of every member in the sangam. Monthly meetings helped them to understand and discuss their problems to find way out by themselves in civic ways.
Formed sangams were strengthen 2011 and 2014 to accessed government schemes like widow pension, old age pension, ration card, voter id, house patta etc. These sangams were encouraged to deal with local community problems like water and sanitation, improper roads, lights etc.
Women Empowerment
These women were unaware of the society, communication with other people, environmental aspects, sanitation and kitchen gardening. We gathered them and taught them about the unity, cooperative activities. Upon our guidance they formed groups among them. Now they are cultivating the required vegetables for their domestic use. They are also known to market the excessive crops and vegetables that they produce.
Most of the Tribals and rural people were much behind in the education. We started literacy programmes in their area by gathering adults in the evening hours and taught them to read and write. Now they have known the importance of education. They are sending their children to schools, college and institutions. We joined ourselves with National Literacy Mission to educate the people the knowledge of reading and writing. CHDP feels proud to be first organization that erected and installed Solar Street Lights in 6 settlements.
Agricultural Development
The Tribals were poor about the crops like root and cash crops and the method of proper agricultural techniques. They were working as daily wages laborers in the rich people’s lands. We collected them in our meeting and learnt them about agricultural cultivation, irrigation, weeding, harvesting and marketing the agro products in the nearby rural and town areas. Now they are getting regular income through agriculture.
Savings
Since the tribals and rural people were already below the poverty line, they were unaware of saving money for their future. We inculcated the habit of saving a mere amount from their income. The group leader or the head person collect the money and maintain proper accounts for the people. According to our guidance the tribals opened savings account in Indian Bank Udumalpet. They have also availed loan for various purposes, by the help of BDO’s Collector and Government officers.
Cultural Programme
The tribals and rural people were very much interested in celebrating local festivals like Pongal, Deepavali and temple festivals in their region. They celebrate these functions with songs dramas, dance and group dances. We trusted this programmes to be maintained and developed for their communal union and best friendly relationships. Hence we conducted a tribal cultural programme for the first time in Coimbatore district. They have built a Mariamman temple and are performing regular poojas and festivals till now.
Special Programmes
We organized various special meetings in different settlements and rural areas in accordance to our previous programmes. We conducted seminars on international youth day, womens day, literacy programme, primary health and conservation of forest. Also we invited our person from funding agencies, project officers to visit our projected areas and meet the people to review our programmes, achievements on every important occasion.

We gave staffs training in various subjects through our human resources development programme. We also vermin composed manures to carry out their agricultural programme. By income generation programme we taught the people to prepare pickles, aromatic and spicy masalas to enable them to get sustainable income. Besides this we also gave them training in coir twisting from fibres and tailoring. Now they are earning sufficient income though our training.
Land Development Programme
We do also help them to build a syntax tank to preserve water for their irrigation and domestic equipment of water.

Pandemic outbreak across the globe has not only impacted metropolitan cities but also in the rural areas, particularly the vulnerable groups in CHDP working 20 villages around Udumalpet Block of Tiruppur District Taminadu dependent on agriculture, farm labor and semi skilled work.
